Scholastic Books has decided to pull Bratz books from the shelves of its school-sponsored book clubs or fairs. The fact that they ever included these "books" is a bit frightening, kind of like finding out your school offers fluffernutter sandwicheswith coke and a side of french fries on "healthy" snack days.
A local group is claiming victory for the decision. The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood held an email writing campaign to get the Bratz books removed.

Proponents of offering books based on television shows or toys - like Bratz or Hannah Montana -argue that the commerical tie-in might be the only thing to get kids to actually read books.
But if something like L'il Bratz: Catwalk Cuties (Yes, that's an actual title. It's actually kind of a fun game to come up with your own titles like L'il Bratz: Streetwalker Sweeties or L'il Bratz: 'Ho Honies) is actually seen as an incentive to get kids to read then, well, America has bigger problems than a $700 billion dollar Wall Street bailout.
